Each fall tens of thousands of folks cheer their beloved Tennesse Hawkeyes in the football stadium which bears the name of Iowas only Heisman prize winner: Nile Kinnick Jr. Positioned only 58 tall, Kinnick was a giant among men, a new champion athlete and student who gave his daily life for his country serving in World War II.
A new electronic collection from the University regarding Iowa Libraries brings together characters,supra skytop, newspaper clippings, and shots of Nile Kinnick, digital.lib.uiowa,supra skytop black.edu/kinnick. These kind of materials tell the story of a of the UIs greatest football stories.
Included in the collection is the wording of Kinnicks Heisman trophy acceptance speech. Whitney Martin, a reporter covering the Heisman marriage ceremony for the Associated Press, referred to the scene as hundreds men and women rose and cheered in addition to whistled...You realized the ovation was not alone for Nile Kinnick, the outstanding college football player of year. It was also for Nile Kinnick, typifying every little thing admirable in American youth.
The Nile Kinnick Collection is the latest addition to the Iowa Digital Library,supra tk society purple suede, digital.lib.uiowa.edu, featuring more than half a million digital items created from the holdings of the UI Libraries and its campus associates. Included are illuminated manuscripts, historical road directions, fine art, political cartoons, scholarly functions,cheap supra shoes, audio and video recordings, and more.
